Confused about what to wear to an interview? For women, I'd recommend a seasonless wool weight suit, either with skirt or pants, in black, navy, or gray. For more conservative industries such as finance and accounting, I typically encourage a skirt over pants, but only if you feel comfortable in a skirt suit. More important than skirt v. pants is to wear a quality suit that FITS WELL. Avoid anything too tight, too short, or cheaply made. For men, I'd suggest investing in a quality suit (either black, navy, or grey) now to last you for the next several years. Black is probably the best option for your very first suit. Most importantly, look for good quality and good fit. Be prepared to spend a minimum of $100-$200 for your interview suit. Shop around! Retailers are experiencing tough times and clearance sales are everywhere: Macy's, Nordstrom's, Dillard's, etc. Keep hair away from your face, jewelry and makeup minimal. Women should wear closed-toed shoes with a small or medium heel that match your suit. Men should wear coordinating shoes with a nice polish and socks that match the pants. Avoid wearing fragrance of any kind, just to be on the safe side. Above, see some pictures for other ideas...
