Florida Trends and News

News this week while you are enjoying a break from school!

* I read in Florida Trend today that the US Department of Energy named Orlando one of 25 Solar American Cities and gave a $200k grant to partner with the county and Orlando Utilities Commission to improve sustainability practices.

I also recently looked at Florida's Agency for Workforce Innovation Labor Statistics and read through the Hot Jobs in Florida
Topping the list was Network Systems and Data Communications Analysts with an annual growth rate of 5.4% and an anticipated 1232 annual openings.
To be classified a "hot job", the growth rate must be faster than the average for all occupations in the area (1.89%), have at least 50 annual openings, have an entry wage of at least $9.80/hr and an average wage of at least $12.05/hr

Confused about what to wear to an interview? For women, I'd recommend a seasonless wool weight suit, either with skirt or pants, in black, navy, or gray. For more conservative industries such as finance and accounting, I typically encourage a skirt over pants, but only if you feel comfortable in a skirt suit. More important than skirt v. pants is to wear a quality suit that FITS WELL. Avoid anything too tight, too short, or cheaply made. For men, I'd suggest investing in a quality suit (either black, navy, or grey) now to last you for the next several years. Black is probably the best option for your very first suit. Most importantly, look for good quality and good fit. Be prepared to spend a minimum of $100-$200 for your interview suit. Shop around! Retailers are experiencing tough times and clearance sales are everywhere: Macy's, Nordstrom's, Dillard's, etc. Keep hair away from your face, jewelry and makeup minimal. Women should wear closed-toed shoes with a small or medium heel that match your suit. Men should wear coordinating shoes with a nice polish and socks that match the pants. Avoid wearing fragrance of any kind, just to be on the safe side. Above, see some pictures for other ideas...
